← Work / Shapes Shopify Theme

Three themes. Three tones. One system.

Switch needed demo stores that showed how their Shopify theme could adapt to different brand personalities. I wrote product copy, homepage content, and collection pages for three distinct variations - Muted, Neon, and Pastel. The copy is now live on all official Shapes demo stores.

01 — The situation

Shapes is a premium Shopify theme built for flexibility. It comes in three design variations: Muted (sophisticated retailers), Neon (bold brands), and Pastel (approachable stores). Each variation targets different aesthetics and audiences.

But a theme is only as good as the proof it works.

Switch needed demo stores that would show potential buyers what Shapes could actually do. Not generic descriptions. Real copy that demonstrated the theme's adaptability across different brand voices.

02 — The real challenge

Each theme variation had to tell a different story.

The Muted version needed to feel sophisticated and understated. The Neon version had to be bold and energetic. The Pastel version had to feel friendly and approachable.

But all three had to demonstrate they were the same underlying system - same structure, same functionality, different voice. Write copy that's too similar and you haven't shown adaptability. Write copy that's too different and buyers won't see the consistency.

03 — What we built

I developed three distinct brand voices, each rooted in the same structural DNA.

Muted
Refined and understated. Clean language. Sophisticated tone. Copy that lets the design speak. Short, considered sentences. No unnecessary words.
Neon
Bold and energetic. Playful copy that matched the visual intensity. Punchy headlines. Short bursts. High contrast language.
Pastel
Friendly and approachable. Genuine tone. Copy that felt warm without being saccharine. Conversational but not casual.

The critical work was structure. Every store had the same information architecture. Same product page layout. Same homepage structure. Same collection organization. Same call-to-action strategy. The language changed completely - the system stayed consistent.

04 — What changed

Before, Switch could show the theme's visual flexibility but couldn't demonstrate it worked for different brand types. A potential buyer might see Neon and think "This theme is for bold brands only."

After, each demo store became a complete proof of concept. A designer viewing Muted could envision their luxury brand. A retailer exploring Neon could see their energetic vibe. Someone browsing Pastel could imagine their friendly aesthetic.

The demos no longer asked buyers to imagine what Shapes could do. They showed them.

05 — Deliverables
  • Product descriptions for all products across three theme variations
  • Homepage copy for three distinct brand voices
  • Collection page copy demonstrating voice consistency within each theme
  • Same structure, three voices - all live on official Shapes demo stores
06 — The outcome

Switch now has three working demo stores with professional copy. Each store demonstrates a different brand personality. Each one answers the question: "Can this theme work for my brand?" The copy is live on the official Shapes demos.

"Great communication and followed the brief exactly."
